So, It was a busy weekend and All got taken care of. Ice was delivered to those promised and I even got to enjoy a restful Sunday with my familia. I even had time to take care of a LAST MINUTE CLIENT who called me Friday morning for an ice sculpture needed for their grand opening THAT SAME NIGHT! Now here is what I don't understand........
You call me the day of, begging for me to do this for you, I give you the price and you agree. I have to stop everything I'm doing, in order to bust out your logo and make your event happen. It took 3 more hours of my day( that was already consumed with work), but I did it. The way I make this happen is by shaving time . No lunch (45 min.), Push back calls (1 hour), Telling my son that " NO, I CAN NO LONGER TAKE YOU TO THE BAR-B-Q JOINT FOR DINNER BECAUSE PAPPA HAS TO WORK."(even though I hate breaking a promise, I don't tell him that this is how his pappa provides for him, his brother and their momma) so with that said, I made time for you.
Of course we show up at the time we said we'd show up and guess what. You are not there. I set up your 5 foot tall Ice Sculpture and nobody knows who is supposed to pay it. I should know better, FUCK THAT! I DO KNOW BETTER. But I give you the benefit of the doubt and when I call you, you have me wait......and wait..... and wait. All to find out, I'm not getting paid till the next day. you could have told me that all along.
Next day rolls around, guess what, you haven't called. When I call you and you say, "let me call you in 10 min." and 30 min. passes, I assume my money is gone. What are you gonna do?
I'll tell you what I do. I drive my ass to your club to chase my money. I sit there and listen to your BULLSHIT EXCUSES on how your POS system didn't work and how your Bartenders robbed you for over a grand the night prior. SO WHAT! I'm not your fucking therapist! I'm an self-employed, hard working, father of two who does not have a regular 9-5. When people need an ice sculpture, I provide it. No matter when or where. THIS IS WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING. THIS IS MY LIFE! All I ask is that you PAY for Ice that YOU ORDERED! Seriously, why do you want to fuck someone over like that. Karma is a bitch and I'm a firm believer in what you do comes back to you. YOUR CLUB WILL FAIL, PEOPLE WILL STEAL FROM YOU AND YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING THAT COMES YOUR WAY.
I finally got paid 30 hours after the sculpture was gone but I had to meet up at a Chevron gas station at 1:30am on a Saturday night, trying to fend off a prostitute ,who wants to get in my truck, while at the same time, explain to the DRIVER (she sent him out to pay me), that he is $45 short of what is owed. Talk about a crazy night.
I greatly appreciate the Thousands of people who over the years have taken care of me by supporting my dream of being a professional ice sculptor. I sincerely thank you from the heart. For those of you who fuck me over. Yours is coming. I Guaran-fukin-tee it...............

Things are great. life is great. DLG Ice Factory just completed 10 years in the ice game and is getting stronger by the day. I am very fortunate to have a great crew of people around me. A close circle of friends. Like-minded individuals who together can do & change whatever they want. Life is really short so quit putting things off and go for what you want. There is no reason why you don't deserve it. If you want something bad enough YOU WILL GET IT. Just be wary of what you want. sometimes its what you can't have. (or handle)

Alaska: The Begining

So, I arrived to the Airport on Friday, Feb 27th and took off to a competition I've only ever dreamed about. My first plane took me to Seattle and during the flight, I realized I was sitting between two of the biggest guys on the plane. I had their elbows in my chest and I felt a little closterphobic. Needless to say, I really needed a drink when I landed. I met up with a teammate, Robert "POP & LOCK" Childres. We downed several Jack & cokes and grabbed our other flight to Fairbanks, Alaska. Home of the World Ice Championship. It is Insane here. The people are unique and the food rivals second to none in the world. Especially the meatloaf and tuna fish sandwiches but the ice, The ice is blue like a diamond and the size of each block is 6ft tall by 4 ft wide and 3 ft thick. we have 10 of them to sculpt in a weeks time. I'll be posting up pics as soon as I can. I've been here for one day and already have seen a moose close up, Eskimo thugs(oh they got em here) who wanted to start shit, snowflakes the size of cornflakes and the most beautiful ice I've ever seen. I look forward to sharing this experience with you. time for some zzzzz's.

So a lot of you know of my apprentice Dr. Phil. He came along in early 2008 to do some training with us before he got shipped off to the US ARMY. On the day he was supposed to swear in, he had a change of heart and decides to not go into the armed forces and join a different kind of ARMY. The DLG Army. I trained and molded him into becoming one of the world's greatest ice sculptors but in the process, sometimes you veer off the path and do some crazy shit.

This is what I had to come see when HPD calls me at 2 in the morning to ask if I know of a suspect named phil. Oh, and they call me from phil's cell phone so I think its a joke. When I realize he's not playing and he tells me there's been a fender bender involving my truck. I get up and go. Aparently, Phil managed to get 7 HPD cars and a helicopter to chase him thru 5th ward and have it all end in front of the icehouse aka DLG Ice Factory. They beat the shit out of him, which I wanted too as well, but at least they didn't shoot him. he should of at least have gotten tazed.
All in all, they got him for felony evading and let him go 3 days later with 3 years probation and a butt load of community service. They didn't even mention anything about the loaded pistol grip shotgun in the back seat. It mysteriously disappeared. They wanted me to press charges for theft of a vehicle, being that I didn't give him permission to use it. I declined. You can't defect from the DLG army that easily. Hopefully its a lesson learned that very few people get second chances.
I hope I didn't create a monster.

Sorry its been a while. Shits been crazy lately. In a very good way though. 2008 was good to us and I don't see why 2009 isn't gonna be better. Like my good friend Yvonne says, MAY YOU SHINE IN 09!" Already into the first couple of weeks in the year and we just finished the MAGNIFICENT 7 Ice Sculpting competition here in town. It was GREAT! Discovery Green gave us full control (as well as some $$$) to make this event a one-of-a-kind ice sculpting expierience. Thanks to all who made it happen. I know the 2010 competition will be bigger & Better!
